The International Surfing Festival, Varkala is the first National Surfing Championship event of the 2025 calendar year. The competition is being organized on 10, 11, 12 and 13 April under the aegis of the Kerala Tourism Department, Kerala Adventure Tourism Promotion Society (KATPS) in association with Thiruvananthapuram DTPC, with technical support from the Surfing Federation of India (SFI) and the International Surfing Association (ISA).
The event will be inaugurated by the Honorable Minister of Public Works and Tourism, Shri. Adv. Muhammad Riyas, at Edava Beach, Varkala, Thiruvananthapuram on April 10 at 4 pm. In this event, surfing athletes from India will compete against each other in various categories. The aim of the event is to promote the sport of surfing in India and to make Kerala a major surf destination in India.
The festival will also provide an opportunity for water sports enthusiasts to experience the new sport of surfing and its lifestyle. Varkala beach has several levels for beginners to practice and enjoy. Many foreign and interstate tourists come to Varkala every year to surf. The Tourism Department intends to make Varkala an international surfing destination through this festival.
